Updated Covid Pandemic Information 9/1/2021

The School District of Lee County is committed to protecting students and employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of our population, Dr. Savage has implemented a 30-day indoor mandatory mask requirement that begins tomorrow, September 1st.
A recent ruling from the 2nd Circuit Court in Florida indicated that school districts are able to adopt policies concerning health care and education of children in school provided there is a reasonable basis to act.
Due to the high COVID-19 positivity rate in our local community and with hospitals at or near maximum capacity, we must do all we can to support our community. Utilizing masks indoors is considered one of the most significant mitigation measures according to the CDC.
Therefore, starting tomorrow, 9/1, all students and employees will be required to wear a mask when indoors for class, during any indoor school sponsored events, and when riding the bus.
The indoor mask requirement will be reviewed at the end of the month.
We know that the mask mandate will not result in the elimination of this pandemic. However, as Dr. Savage shared in his comments during the Board Meeting yesterday, this is an “all hands on deck” moment for our entire community and we need to do everything we can. The administration, faculty, staff and parents of Sunshine Elementary School wish to promote school unity, school pride and create a safe and positive climate to ensure a distraction free learning environment for all of our students. The uniform policy is mandatory for all students in Pre-K through 5th grade.
Acceptable Clothing:
- navy blue, black or tan pants (no cargo pants, painters pants, jeans, corduroy, leggings on their own, etc...)
- navy blue, black or tan shorts, must be fingertip length, no more than 2"-3" above the knee
- tights or leggings may be worn under skirts/skorts or jumpers
- any solid color, collared polo shirt
- logos/brands must be smaller than a half dollar
- athletic style shoes or dress shoes with closed toe and backs and must be properly fastened.(no sandals, flip-flops, slides, crocs, heels, etc...)
- tennis shoes must be worn on P.E. days - check with your child's teacher for the scheduled days (3x a week)
